1. remember that the observation must start from a neutral point of view (leave preconceptions at home)
2. always keep the focus on the role of kindness in the things that happen : what we are interested in understanding is not the functional side of the city (supply services / performance), but neither is the purely emotional (kindness for its own sake); rather we want to find how and how much kindness / non-kindness can change the subjective perception and sometimes the objective quality of what happens.
3. remember we're talking about human-human interactions, which may be mediated or supported by technological tools, architectural spaces, but not delegated to machines.
